Green: Family tree

1. Overview

Originally the Greens seemed to have been craftsmen from the working class in Great Britain. Some of them even experienced the hardship of poverty that was so characteristic of many of the working class, particularly during the early 19th century. The Greens didn’t seem to move around much and for three generations they remained in the county of Kent in England. Although he kept contact with his family in Kent, Henry Green (1801-1873) was the first one in our family branch who moved away, first to complete studies in Liverpool and in Glasgow, and then finally to enter full-time ministry in Cheshire, England. As far as is known, he was the first descendant in the line who obtained a tertiary qualification at a university. This provided him with a foundation to build his career upon and offered the means to care for his middle-class family in Knutsford, and to publish his extensive writings. His daughter, Isabella married into the middle-class Jamison family.
